Most common malignant tumour of the hands and face in middle aged patients
Usually occurs in the metaphysis or diaphysis
Presents with constant ache or increased size of a pre-existing lump
Metastatic deposits are infrequent and usually go to lung
Patients with Ollier's disease (multiple enchondromatosis) or Maffucci's syndrome (multiple enchondromas and hemangiomas) are at much higher risk of chondrosarcoma than the normal population
